18th Thoughts for Food
March 6, 2010
Racine - River North
Once again, it’s time for our annual late Winter food and fund raising benefit! Thoughts for Food brings together hundreds, if not thousands of people to listen to a variety of music provided by generous musicians in several venues on Racine’s north side. The money from admission and donated non-perishable food provides the Food Bank with stores of goods during a time when donations are in a “slow” period.
What began as an event labeled as, “A beer party with music for food.” and a single venue, George’s Tavern, has grown to feature nine venues and over 35 musical groups. Over the past 18 years, proceeds have provided tons of food and hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Food Bank. The event has now grown to be a “must attend” for people throughout the area. If you haven’t already, you will start to see posters, links on web sites, advertisements and articles in local media, and even radio interviews with our organizing committee.
Like last year, this year’s event is $10.00 for admission along with (2) non-perishable food items. Admission will get you a wrist band to show at any of the venues you would like to attend. One ticket gains admission to every venue! Schedules will be provided at the door that will have the latest venue lineups and times of performance.
These are hard times. Many people are in need. People that for years held a good job, owned a home, sent kids to college and donated to the community are now without work and in need of help. People that never, ever thought they would need assistance are struggling to remain financially solvent. A box of food helps them get along. It takes one more thing off of their troubled mind. It gives them a balanced and healthy diet for their family. Your attendance helps make this happen.
Hope to see you there!
